How Often Should We Use Hair Shampoo?

There are many conflicting opinions about how often to use shampoo to wash our heads. Even experts in hair and scalp care do not have a unanimous opinion. Ideally, you should use shampoo according to the needs of your hair and scalp.
How often should we use hair shampoo?

We usually wash our hair with shampoo every day for several reasons: due to a western culture, hygiene standards and unpleasant natural oils. So, we come to the question: How often is it good to shampoo your hair and scalp?

Hair and skin are naturally hydrated by sebum. Without it, the skin dries and has a scaly appearance. It also becomes very vulnerable to environmental conditions.

Habits related to the use of a shampoo on the hair, should adapt to the natural cycle of hair regeneration. Sometimes, even the use of certain types of shampoo or conditioner can influence the secretion of natural oils.

Stop using hair shampoo?

Washing your head with shampoo every day is a relatively new concept. In the 1950s, women used to wash their heads and comb their hair once a week.

With the advent of shampoo on the market, this habit of hygiene has become a daily one, made in the comfort of your own home. Is it better to use shampoo daily, or was it better like those ladies did in the ’50s?

How often do we use shampoo on our hair

The answer should be based on personal experience. Experts do not all agree on whether it is good to wash our heads frequently. Some even advise us not to wash our heads too often. This is because sebum secretion can increase as a reaction to the shampoo.

Others say that only by frequent washing can we remove sebum and keep pores and hair follicles clean. This prevents the formation of deposits that cause skin diseases.

An Australian radio producer has admitted to not washing her head for more than a decade. As a result of this statement, in 2007, 500 listeners voluntarily enrolled in a study program.

About 86% of them stated that they did not see any change in the condition of their hair,  as long as they did not wash their hair.

choice

If your hair is thin, you will probably need to wash your head daily. For people with thick or wavy hair, it is probably best to wash once every 3 days.

Some people found that their hair looked shinier and could be combed better the day after washing with shampoo.

When we wash our hair with shampoo

The opinion most often expressed is that the hair should be washed with shampoo twice a week, or as needed.

If you have long, wavy or thick hair and require a longer time of care, one wash per week would seem to be the best solution. However, some people insist that the best choice is daily shampooing.

We recommend that you observe the reaction of your hair and scalp to frequent shampooing and adapt your habits as such.

If you notice an oily layer on your hair, then you should wash daily. However, use a more natural, less harmful type of shampoo. Frequent washing with solutions containing chemical compounds can damage the hair.

If you have drier hair, you can wash it less often. Also, use a milder conditioner instead of shampoo. Or, you can opt for another product that moisturizes the hair.
